3-Leadership-Lessons-Resilience

By Leadership Keynote Speaker, Jamie Mason Cohen

Mr.B spent 20 years in jail helping to grant final wishes to dying children.

1. A lifetime of achievement can be overshadowed by one awful decision. As a leader, you can pre-empt emotionally fuelled outbursts by dealing with anger before it boils over.

Anger is one letter away from danger.

Channel the powerful energy infused within anger through mindfulness training, morning page journals, therapy and learning how to have courageous conversations. When you work on yourself, you work on others.

2. Be open to different perspectives where you least expect to find them. I met Mr.B accidentally. I was at the prison visiting someone else, whom Mr.B had helped. I had preconceived judgments about him. I was wrong and I’m better for knowing him. Mr.B attended my wedding.

3. Seek a mentor to help you get through your darkest hour. Mr.B sought out the prison chaplain, Father Mac. The Father guided Mr.B to find his new purpose and use his exceptional street smarts to serve child-focused charities.

4. After a crisis settles, ask, what good can come out of this situation that you can celebrate someday? Mr.B asked himself this question and stayed open until the answer presented itself.
