I’ve had bosses who didn’t advocate for me and a few who did. Every time I had a boss who didn’t advocate for me it was confusing and led to a lot of negative energy spent on attempting to control something that was out of my control.
Ultimately, I wish I knew then what I know now: that a boss who doesn’t advocate for you can be a sign to discover or realize your true worth in some of the following ways:
- It can open your eyes to finding better opportunities elsewhere if you’re feeling stuck and in a rut.
- It can spark you to turn inward, rather than seeking external acknowledgement, which serves you more authentically in the long-term.
- It can prompt a thorough self-analysis of your true strengths and where they might best be served onward and upward to bigger and better things.
