This is the question I asked myself when I invited a diverse group of friends from across North America together, who didn’t know each other together, for a day-long mastermind.
Here’s WHAT WORKED and WHAT I’D DO DIFFERENTLY NEXT TIME:
WHAT WORKED:
1. Curate a group of diverse, intelligent, creative, open-minded, passionate, good-hearted people who have been successful in different areas.
2. Have an overall objective and plan to make the meeting as productive, fun, focused and beneficial as possible.
3. Pick location(s) that set the tone: We had the morning mastermind at my in-law’s restaurant, What-A-Bagel, for breakfast. Followed by a Friday night, Morrocan-themed dinner at our house.
4. Find opportunities to initiative introductions between members who don’t know each other to point out areas of common interest.
WHAT I’D DO DIFFERENTLY NEXT TIME:
1. Better Follow-Up: Even though we created a Google Doc. to help each other with our goals, we didn’t follow-up on what we discussed.
2. Face-to-Face Only. I attempted to have a friend in Nepal participate through Skype. This didn’t have the same effect as an in-person meeting.
