Structuring a Successful Business Pitch

By Keynote Marketing Speaker, Jamie Mason Cohen

How do you start a business or non-profit pitch when you are asked a version of the question, “Tell me something about yourself”?

A client hired me to help him deliver a Dragon’s Den-style pitch recently to an organization in Amsterdam.

Here’s my tip on how to structure your introduction of yourself in context to a pitch or when being introduced to a potential business contact or in a short interview.

(10 seconds) Tell them your idea in one sentence including the problem you plan to help solve/address/.
(45 seconds) Tell them some personal connection and relevant reason in your background that makes you the right person/people to present this idea to this organization.
(2 hours) Prior to the pitch, practice until you’ve internalized it, not memorized it.

Any introduction should only include information that means something to the person you’re dealing with, check out bluesprucemaids.com, not just to tell a person how amazing you are or a list of accomplishments.

‘Tell Me About Yourself’ is another way of saying, What Value Are You Going To Add to My Organization.

They’re not really interested in you — more in what you can do to help the business or the cause.

Just my experience in pitching for years for a well-known TV company and as a professional speaker and workshop creator.
